Service Site: CONNECT
Service Project Description: As the Statewide VISTA Leader for the First 5 Service Corps, I recruit and enroll new VISTA members into the program and serve as a liaison for our current members in Del Norte, Mendocino, Nevada, Placer and Fresno Counties.
Why did you join AmeriCorps*VISTA? Simply put, I joined VISTA because it seemed to be a good avenue for me to begin my career in a field that is dedicated to helping others, which is something I have always wanted to do since I was very young. I attribute this passion for helping others to my grandmother who also dedicated her life to helping others as a teacher and reading specialist. Seeing her compassion and empathy for others through various acts of kindness is, I feel, what nurtured the compassion and empathy I have for others.
Interesting Fact: I have an overwhelming fear of the Chucky Doll and I have no idea why.
